Review: Blanc NRI, Indian restaurant in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire

Wow, wow, wow! What an incredible experience from start to finish.

I visited Blanc NRI, an Indian restaurant based in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire on Sunday 26th July 2020 at 7pm.

As you enter this impressive venue, the bar area is to the left. There are numerous seats where those diners who have opted for a takeaway can sit. They can even kick-start their treat with a drink, should they be tempted by the wide range on offer.

You will be welcomed at the bar by the lovely Alex, who is the bartender at Blanc NRI and has introduced an impressive range of cocktails using branded favourites, Barcadi, Bombay Sapphire and Grey Goose.

The decor is beaut! It's cosy, exclusive and luxurious with comfortable booths for large parties. Soon after, I was shown to my table and presented with the extensive drinks menu by Ploy. I welcomed her suggestion on cocktails, she introduced me to Aviation - gin, violet liqueur, fresh lemon and sugar, there was also crushed parmaviolets used on the rim of the glass. It was a classic, vibrant cocktail which tasted sweet and I was pleased with the recommendation.

The service waiter during my visit, named Ali gave me a menu to view and asked me if I'd like poppodums...well of course! One of my Indian faves! The poppodums came with a selection of dips.

The poppadums graced my table with a selection of colourful dips. I asked Ali for his recommendation and he suggested the lobster. I proceeded to ask how it would be served, and he explained all clearly and patiently. I was keen to try it.

My meal included:

POPPODOMS WITH DIPS

STARTER - KALI MIRCH TIKKA
The starter consisted of four very succulent chicken cubes grilled in a clay oven. The chicken presented a hint of spice from the black pepper, all served with scattered radish and dressed carefully in sauce.

MAIN - LOBSTER MOILEE
Wow! Days later I’m still thinking about this dish. The lobster was a delicious texture, served in a rich coconut sauce flavoured with ginger and served on mash. I must say this was very well presented, certainly a sight to behold when brought to the table. It was a generous portion and I struggled to finish it with the sides. I would definitely order this again on a future visit.

SIDES - STEAMED RICE, CHEESE & GARLIC NAAN, MAWA ALOO JEERA SIDE
The cumin potatoes are amazing, so fresh, colourful and a great addition to the table! Highly recommended!

DESSERT - HUSN-E ARA
Although I was stuffed, I was tempted to try a dessert by Assistant Manager, Jamal. I tried the crispy fried bread stuffed with kesari pineapple compote topped with nutty rabarhi. I was expecting it to be a quite heavy dessert but it was quite light, fresh and refreshing after the meal.

The location on Blanc NRI is just off a main road, the A34 heading to Stone. So as this is a restaurant that many people to drive too, Alex kindly explained that all the cocktails on the menu can be made into a mocktail, for those of us who are designated driver. This was a huge perk to me, as you still get the theatre of exciting drinks even if you're not having alcohol on the evening.

I tried the ZOMBIE as a mocktail, Alex swapped the Bacardi shots for mango, passionfruit, peach, grenadine and pineapple. He still lit the mocktail, which mad ethe experience very exclusive - a top choice for a girls evening out!

Something else that is soooo exciting, is Blanc NRI also do sharing trees and when you buy multiple cocktails you save money off each of the drinks...and, unlike other bars and restaurants, you are able to order different types of cocktails, you don't have to just order a single type. Cocktails you can order on the tree include espresso martini, pornstar martini, salted caramel martini, clover club and aviation. You can order the sharing tree for between 4 and 6 people.

The restaurant has disability access and has a disabled toilet. The toilets were very clean, had a floral wall and very clean.

Sanitisers were available to use and spaced around the restaurant, to be used upon arrival. Masks are available and all the team are wearing these.

I have to give the team a thumbs up, they were incredibly professional, made me feel very comfortable whilst dining there, gave me fabulous recommendations on what food and drink to try and were friendly.
